Leadership
Survive the Boardroom With This Silent “Force”
Times are tough. Stakes have never higher for women of color who are seated at a boardroom table.
A woman operating at this level knows there will always be some kind of barrier that will prevent her from taking the next step. The best way to detect and address these challenges is by tapping into and trusting your intuition.
Every female leader who is focused on her upward mobility, needs a strategy that involves developing a bond between her inner and outer world.
Your intuition is the dynamic force that connects you to everything in and around you at all times. The best way to strengthen your intuitive muscle begins by developing a daily practice of quieting your mind and allowing yourself to listen and feel what is going on inside of you.
With so much data available to us, knowing how to tune into your intuition can help you to find the needle in the haystack.
Go Ahead, Get Deep
Training yourself to go inward and enter into a mindful moments is a valuable defense for dealing with stress, indecisiveness, and even your emotions.
Mindful moments occur when we consciously choose to turn off external distractions and focus on how we feel inside for a few minutes.
Think about that. You use your intuition and instincts on everything from knowing the right person to hire to sensing when your child is starting to get sick even before he or she starts to cough.
By consciously choosing to tune into your inner awareness you are expanding your ability to know what is right or wrong, to detect a pattern, and even how to shape the mix of the information you sense with your data.
This is the type of ingenuity that leads to creative ideas and recharges your energy to help energize the love for your work and even more importantly to care of yourself. Seventy percent of our immune system is found below our belly button, and this is why trusting your gut is so important to staying healthy.
Please, Do Not Wait!
When a woman is intuitively aware she recognizes the warning signs of when her body is out of balance. With every passing day that she ignores her inner wisdom, the less likely she will make wise decisions on addressing what is bothering her inside.
Very driven women must know how to soothe themselves . This should include everything from going to the doctor when you first notice a symptom, to developing an advisory council of ride and die friends, mentors, coaches and family members who will support, inspire, encourage you, while always being truthful and authentic.
So it’s all about knowing yourself and scheduling downtime when you need it. It’s about not waiting until you are broken to admit that something is wrong.
To survive and thrive in any boardroom, women of color must balance their busyness, projects and commitments while making it a priority to take care of themselves. Greatness is only significant if it lasts.
