Design Your Quality of Life
In the Inner Circle, we’ve discussed lots about how to design your life, home, have a healthier body, and explore your spirituality.
But one can design their career almost as carefully as anything else.
There are about 5 areas you need to focus on in order to have it run smoothly. This works if you are on the first year of your career or the 20th year.
An alpha female does not let this slide. She is focused, determined, and definitely doesn’t mind switching lanes and taking risks. Though her main goal is usually money, quality of life tops the list.
What is quality of life?
It’s when you have the time to do the things you enjoy and there is minimal stress. The job or career you have allows you to leave time for social activities, exercise, vacation and little distractions. You live in the home you want to live in, get along with your neighbors, have assigned parking, eat well and exercise whenever you want.
Can you do this now? Most people can’t. Because they live to work, instead of work to live. Alpha females work to live.
The career or job they have does (or will eventually) allow them to have a high quality of life no matter what.
I’m not referring to money, either. I’m referring to, peace. You can make $20,000 a year as a cashier and still have a better quality of life than a lawyer making $100,000 a year. Both can be alphas, but one is happier.
Below are 5 focus areas to get you there NOW.
Blueprint
The blueprint is where it all starts. This is comparable to a building blueprint or instructions in a manual. It tells you how everything is supposed to come together.
The use of a vision board comes handy here, but you can also just write it down. Write down your career path. What would be ideal? How do you want to progress?
You can jot down your intimate relationships, friends, social activities, even places you plan to vacation. All of these elements will contribute to your quality of life.
Blueprints can’t be done overnight. It’s best to dedicate a weekend to it. Even if you are midway in your career, it’s never too late to start one.
Don’t be afraid to put down companies and jobs in other states, countries, etc. Describe your hobbies, home, pets, children and thensome.
You can use arrows, lists, markers, or just pen and paper and break it up into headed columns. I like vision boards, but sometimes words help paint the picture better. You may choose to design a vision board later once you design your blueprint.
Focus
This is where it gets more interesting. This is where the power of your mind comes into play.
You need to develop the right mindset. And it isn’t all about positive thinking. It’s about power thinking. We can tell ourselves “I am great”, and “All is well” everyday, but is there any power behind that?
As an alpha, you should already have tools—novenas, meditation, prayer, or anything else that raises your vibration. It’s about feeling expansive, powerful, and belief that your word is bond.
Once you begin to choose your words more carefully, you will understand the power behind them. This power will allow you to focus and direct your words to “treat” your situation.
The trick here is not to get stuck on the “how” part. Focus on the “what”. The “what” is the end result. What does the end result look like, feel like, taste like? Walk in that, everyday, or at least every chance you get.
Action
The blueprint is in place and your mind is focused. You need to plant seeds and “demonstrate” your success. Demonstrations happen through active plotting.
Let me explain. As an alpha, you are all about experimenting, you are not afraid of risk, in fact you invite it in for tea. If you want a job as the personal assistant to XYZ investment banker and don’t know if he is even hiring, you need to plot.
Let’s say there are perks to this job you need asap. You need to get past his current assistant to get your resume in his face. You are confident you are the better, more experienced assistant.
You will simply find his blackberry email (google!) or leave a voicemail at night, or email him directly (via blackberry is best) and get your resume in front of him.
Don’t be shy. What’s the worst that can happen? He’ll refuse to invest your daddy’s $50 million dollars? [Insert laugh, here] Now, this is some serious action. You didn’t wait for the ad in the paper or the okay from his assistant to let you through.
Other action steps can simply include networking with others, researching open opportunities, joining groups, clubs, and professional organizations. But as an alpha, you want to do everything with a twist. A big, bad, bold one. But don’t hurt anyone!
Maintenance
Sometimes the engine needs a little fine tuning.
You get the call for the job, but it isn’t exactly what you expected. You veered off your original blueprint and now are on a different path that is bringing you stress.
Were you promised a promotion but never got one? Did you relocate and it wasn’t exactly what you thought? Your quality of life is low. This is where 90% of people give up.
Don’t let obstacles veer you off course. Re-examine your blueprint. Revise it. Celebrate small successes and don’t get stuck. Be open to change, but stay on course. Remember, your ultimate life plan is ahead.
Support
Get your team in place.
Celebrities have one, why can’t you? Whether it’s just a mentor or a life coach, or a team of teachers, associates, partners, courses, and the like, work with them.
When the chips are down, an alpha female can’t always get back up on her own. If she does, believe me, she is helping someone who can’t.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but you do have to spend time finding what is right for you. It’s about quality, not quantity. The right support leads to better relationships and that leads to better opportunities.
As you revise your plan, work on making changes along the way. Keep your quality of life high on the list. Keep your eye on the lifestyle you want to live. Focus on those items, and life will attract opportunities to you like a magnet.
