Weekend Rewind: Why I’m A Conservative

womaneyes

By Guest Blogger, Zabeth

Yes, I’m black and I voted Republican in the last 2 elections.

I consider myself a conservative before a Republican as most Republicans in office aren’t true conservatives. I’ll use the following definitions:

Conservatism- a political philosophy supporting a fiscal policy rooted in small government, laissez fair capitalism, and supply-side economics.

Liberalism- a political philosophy emphasizing redistribution of wealth and regulation of business and other forms of economic interventionism, believed to be in the public interest.

There are many reasons why I identify myself as a conservative; however, most of my conservatism revolves around personal and fiscal responsibility:

Personal Responsibility

You make your bed, you lie in it. A true Alpha is responsible for their life and their destiny. You’re situation is the result of your decisions and the consequences of those decisions. Nobody else is responsible for your life.

Taxes

I was a liberal for most of my life. It wasn’t until I left the college bubble and entered the real world where I had to pay taxes and Mommy wasn’t around to augment my finances that I changed over. That’s when I started paying attention to where the money I earned went. I think people should be able to keep as much of their earnings as possible. I like having choice about where I spend the money I make; whether it is on me, my family, or a charity of my choice.

Capitalism Is STILL King

I have not given up on Capitalism as the ideal economic model. I believe it provides the greatest opportunity to develop wealth- especially for minorities. How many American millionaires can you name that came from nothing opposed to European ones? The wealthy in Europe are more likely to have been born into their wealth whereas wealthy Americans come from all different backgrounds.

Limited Government Equals Greater Freedom

Government is not the solution to every problem so stop expecting it to be. Big government means that government is involved in every aspect of your life thus you have diminished freedom. This also costs you money as a large government has to maintain itself; hence your paycheck shrinks. I want government out of my wallet, my bedroom, and my doctor’s office. I want less government in my life, not more of it. Government’s purpose should be to provide a national defense, maintain a criminal justice system, and oversee necessary regulation- that does not include most of the entitlements and policies currently in place.

Stop Hating On the Rich

Especially when you consider that most people wish they were rich! LOL! It’s easy to point the finger and say make them pay when them does not include you. What if rich didn’t just mean those making over $250K per year? Suppose it meant those making $100K? $75K? $50K? As government expands and entitlements increase that could become a reality. Furthermore, ask yourself: has a broke person ever given me a job? I’m guessing, no. Class warfare is silly.

    (TRYING AGAIN)

Mannnnnnnnnnn give me a damn break. This “brotha” is so full of shit, he needs toilet paper for his mouth. Dude spits diarrhea. He sounds like a Michael Steele clone – dumb, ignorant, and full of propaganda. He must have gotten those “definitions” from a RNC decoder ring?

    Personal responsibility…
…is one thing but trust is another. When republicans develop policies that allow others to mismanage, lie, and play monopoly with other people’s money, it’s society’s responsibility to get it back. Instead republicans hide behind the law and “madoff” with billions of other people’s money. For what? A bad job done. But, it was legal so those people are fucked? HELL NO. I say, let’s get REAL republican and make government even smaller with less laws so I can plant a bullet in your brain and take my money back. I’ll gladly take personal responsibility for that!

    Capitalism..
…will always be king but the free market system is a different issue and not to be confused with capitalism. Without regulations, we get exactly what we had in the 20s and 30s and what we have now, DEPRESSION. Republican policies do not work, they never did. They didn’t work because people put rats in canned meat, set up sweat shops, and thought it was a bad idea to legislate seat belts in cars. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??

    Limited Government Equals Greater Freedom…
…of what? Greater freedom to mismanage food, transport oil unsafely, see to it that roads aren’t fixed. It’s funny, Republicans only care about limited government when it doesn’t force companies to act RESPONSIBLY. But, they didn’t have a problem building the world’s largest web of roads to help aid car sales. Now that we have it, you wanna bitch and moan about money to keep them up to par. JUST STUPID.

    Stop Hating On the Rich
Give me a break. No one’s hating on the rich, that is, the LEGITMATELY rich. Hard work is one thing, but Republican policies allowed men like Bernie Madoff to exist and a bunch of other “mini madoffs” running around snatchin up old ladies’s retirement funds. If that’s your idea of the rich we should love, I might as well stop working and go rob and steal too. That’s what you’re advocating.

I won’t even say anymore. I already wrote a REAL argument 2 weeks ago:
Society: We the People or Them the Rich?
    http://usanthony.blogspot.com/2009/03/society-we-people-or-them-rich.html

Here are some other DEVELOPED ideas on these issues
Racial Diversity will NOT save Republicans!

    Republican Policy: Bah Humbug

Why McCain’s economic policy is WRONG

Reagan destroyed America (and how Obama can fix it)

Declaration of Independence… just a reminder
    http://usanthony.blogspot.com/2008/08/declaration-of-independence-just.html

How can you say you’re a conservative and then contradict yourself by admitting you voted Republican in the last two elections. The most wasteful spending clowns in politics and you’re trying to claim fiscal responsibility. NIGGA PLEASE.

  4. Brian March 18, 2009 at 12:07 pm #

@THC – I’m understand the hardships people are going though, however, I’m not one to drink the kool-aid of either side. You can chase conspiracies all day and you’ll just be left in the dust chasing your tail.

I feel for your family, but I must say – their situation is a direct result of the social contract we’ve made with these companies. Companies don’t exist for workers – they exist for customers and shareholders – sadly and legally, shareholders come first – which means workers come last.

My point about the conspicious consumption that we all are guilty of was to make sure that everyone is not losing sleep watching 1 hour and 34 minute anti-Obama propaganda videos and are looking at their own situation and understanding their choices and developing plans for making their next move. Instead of lamenting the world as it was before DEC 2007, look at the world as it is and see how you can get yours.

The way this economy is now, even your profession will see some contraction – both from the customers who can no longer afford the experience and from increased competition as women race to maintain their lifestyles.

  5. Gladys March 18, 2009 at 11:55 am #

All of a sudden I have a lot of say and it would be too much to type on here.

@THC I have a masters degree right now and don’t have a job. It is very frustrating.

I agree with Obama’s the education system needs to change. It is a shame and even disgusting to thing that America, conceptualize it, AMERICA can not compete with other super powers when it comes to research and education. If that doesn’t scare you I am not sure what will.

There are school districts who want to lower the grading standard so that their children can have a better looking transcript to get into college. Does that even make any ounce of since, No!!!. The education system has to change. It has to.

I hesitate when people blame teachers, but I do have to say there are some teachers who are not fit to teach, but what about the good teachers out there that can’t get anything done in their class. I know a teacher right now who had a parent come into her class and cures her out because she said the teacher was giving her child too much homework. The priniciple of the school was so afraid of the parent that she penalized the teacher, and it was clear to see that the work was apporpriate for the child. So you have teacher under attack from student and parents so how do you expect them to do their very best at teaching.

The fear of making children feel bad, or disappointed or embarrassed is among one of the things that has ruined the education system here in America and Obama is trying to change the system. Most of the public schools here in America are a joke.

The one thing I like about Charter Schools is that they have a really restrict set of standards and teachers and students have to be up to Parr. If the school is not producing good students it gets closed period!!!

  6. The Hooker Chronicles March 18, 2009 at 10:38 am #

Oh come on brotha, we not on here talking about rims spinning and bouncing cars like a bunch of juveniles, that’s insulting. we”re discussing the real deal. It doesn’t take movie maker and youtube for you to see what’s going on. There are at least 10 hard working people in my immediate family that are laid off from their jobs, and about to loose their homes. My cousin has a Masters Degree and is working in a grocery store, so don’t come here and insult us by telling us what we need to do.

  7. Brian March 18, 2009 at 10:18 am #

wow – the things you can make people believe with access to video clips and a copy of MovieMaker with AfterEffects.

People get real – this is the system and you exist in it based on your own choices. This is why you can grow up in the crappiest neighborhood, go to the shittiest school and still come out on top of the game – and you don’t even have to rap or play ball!

America is an Idea – and you have the power to either see the world as half full or half empty. Yes, we have taxes – I like police and nice roads. Yes we have scammers and cheaters from the halls of our goverment to the pulpits of our churches. But you need to concentrate on what you can affect and change.

Stop borrowing money to finance your unrealistic lifestyle. If you want to live the highlife, go to school or otherwise gain the knowledge to get into the high paying and high stakes games.

But never forget – the world needs ditch diggers. So stop worring about the slavery the Fed Reserve is putting on you (if that even exists) and worry about the slavery that Citibank, Chase, Capitol One and Bank of America is putting on you as you shop for shoes with red soles, spinning rims and bouncing cars!

  8. The Hooker Chronicles March 18, 2009 at 10:15 am #

And now he’s pushing to make it mandatory that all inner city grade, middle, and high school kids are military prepped due to the lack volunteer sign ups. You all should see the amount of inner city schools being closed down and charter schools opened where I live.

I can see a good movie in all of this conspiracy theory thing. Who is with me, lets write a script win a few Oscars and buy some oil!!!!

  18. The Hooker Chronicles March 17, 2009 at 4:19 pm #

I may get beat up for this, but I never really cared for Obama after watching his speeches on no boarders and NWO, and now he’s 100% backing “Africom”, which means America is taking over of the entire Continent of Africa except or Egypt. I feel evil in the air!

  19. Amoye March 17, 2009 at 3:53 pm #

I love this topic!!! juicy and intelligent.

    Thanks as always Maryann…

  20. Gladys March 17, 2009 at 3:37 pm #

@LABB thanks, I thought that is what it was but what exactly would be the point? The Euro was created because there are separate countries in Europe all with their own currency. Everyone in America uses the dollar.

LOL have you seen the so called picture of the Amero? Slap me in the face it is ugly. I read the web-site you posted. A union between North America, Canada and Mexico? I would believe it if you told me a union between China (all hated communists) Russia (communists) and North America oh and maybe add Iraq to the picture. We have got to have oil. Mexico would only weight the economy down and it seems that only greed would cause people to want that union. in fact Mexico is to unstable in their corruption, it would fall apart too fast.

We have to be really careful when it comes to conspiracy theories, because the last time I checked it was said that Obama is the anti-Christ. He is supposed to be fulfilling the prophecy.

  21. Loving a bottom B March 17, 2009 at 3:05 pm #

The Amero is going to be the new money instead of the dollar. Like euros replaced European currencies.

@ Loving the bottom B what is the Amero?

  24. Loving a bottom B March 17, 2009 at 2:45 pm #

@THC. What you know about that NWO?

The parties don’t matter but it is coming. The Amero is coming. The first Bush said it look for it on youtube under Bush New World Order. The NWO originated from the GOP and by all the people you named.

  25. The Hooker Chronicles March 17, 2009 at 2:37 pm #

Yeah it’s kinda sad that the most horrific group of men on the planet are a part of this Political Party.

    -The Bilderberg group
    -The Rockefellers
    -The Greenspan’s

As far as Im concerned, Obama has ZERO power and is only a puppet put into place to keep us busy while they carry out their New world order agenda

  26. Nikki March 17, 2009 at 2:04 pm #

@Austin it’s not okay, and it’s not ok for us to BLAME the “greedy” rich. People made bad choices. The govt loans a la democrats like FannieMae and FreedieMae made it twice as bad. More govt more problems. But I digress.

  27. Austin March 17, 2009 at 1:59 pm #

I agree with you on most parts, and this country is the way it is because of its capitalist mentality, but on the other side of that same token, we are in this situation because the Rich and Uber educated individuals who’s accuaries and calculations saw this happening when this was put into place, in other words they knew one hellafied bubble was being created and when that bubble pops it’s not going to be pretty, and the only thing to keep this country from falling into marxism is their contracts that they have to protect them and guarantee them money for the “great job” they did.. so they get to basically “take the money and run”.. It’s basically greed, because they knew what was going to happen, granted when everyone was in Euphoria because of how things were going no one was complaining and it goes both ways, on individuals who knew they couldn’t afford those payments 3 years down the line, and the “Uber intelligent,” Republican/Democratic/liberal/Conservative people at the top who knew this would happen went along with it because they saw the dollar signs and that’s all that mattered.. I’m all for going out there and getting your own and achieving your financial goals and not looking for hand outs or a feeling of entitlement, with that being said, is it ok for the people who “helped” to put us in this mess, to feel like their “entitled” to the money their receving?

  28. Loving a bottom B March 17, 2009 at 1:54 pm #

LMAO. People wake up. Both parties are generally the same because they both go against the principles they claim to value. Why do I say this? Depending on the time and circumstances one party is a knife and one party is a gun. No matter what always pick the party that carries the knife because you have a chance at surviving or winning in a fight. Let be real the GOP is responsible for the largest expansion of government. The GOP and the DEM both have a lot of good ideas and policies as well as some very bad ones. However to much of either party is bad for the country. Ex. GOP is all about capitalism without restrictions however as the current state of the economy has shown us that capitalist only care about themselves and not the overall healthy of the country. Capitalism needs over sight. The DEM on the other had provide to much over sight which restricts trade and growth.

    Taxes
People want nice roads, schools, well trained fire departments and police, etc, however, they do not want to pay for it. Taxes are not the problem government spending and miss management is. Yes, the GOP has been biggest culprit in this manner. Haliburtun, KPMG, etc. Also based on percentages why do they very rich pay less then the poor? I am not about taxing the rich more. I am about taxing everyone the same percent.

So in short. Pick a party that has your best interest at heart at the time.

  29. Zabeth March 17, 2009 at 1:44 pm #

With regard to bailouts and AIG- we aren’t stuck bailing them out. Obama can stop anytime. Further, they shouldn’t have been bailed out in the first place, they should have been allowed to fail- now that is a true conservative and capitalist perspective.

As for blacks having traditional conservative values that is also very true; blacks are more likely to be religious, pro-life, support the right bare arms, support school choice, and be opposed to gay marriage.

  30. ohthesweetpromise March 17, 2009 at 1:39 pm #

@Jame you are right. That is why I think they have forgotten the fundamentals of their party.

  31. The Hooker Chronicles March 17, 2009 at 1:38 pm #

Oh man, I love me some Republicans!

Just like black folks, I think Republicans get a bad rap in the media. It really takes getting to know one on a personal level to appreciate their stand on politics and finances. Some of my greatest and most generous clients are Republican men over 50. I’ve learned so much about taxes, laws, and investments from Republicans. As a matter of fact, it was the Northern Yankee Republicans that were against slavery before the Reconstruction period. By the time the “Gilded Age” came along during the late 19th century, Republicans were beginning to be seen as racist greedy industrialist.

Although I consider myself a Democrat and Liberal, I am definitely a take care of your own shit type of girl.

  32. James March 17, 2009 at 1:35 pm #

Martin Luther King Jr, COLIN POWELL, BOOKER T WASHINGTON, etc all of these Famous men were Republicans. Black people have a deep rooted black republican/conservative tradition, it was a republican who ended slavery, ABE LINCOLN, Obama’s role model.

  33. ohthesweetpromise March 17, 2009 at 1:28 pm #

There will always be the rich and the poor. As long as someone earned the riches fair and square. We should leave them alone. It is funny though. The poor are always getting the bad end of the stick and it has become so normal that we do not show outrage at it. Hmmmmmm…… something to chew on.

  34. Maryann March 17, 2009 at 1:26 pm #

Good points! Stop Hating On The Rich, especially these days, I’m tired of hearing the media demonizing the rich, telling folks to be angry at rich folk, let rich folk do what they do, we can learn from them, let them keep their money and let’s focus on getting our own.

  35. ohthesweetpromise March 17, 2009 at 1:22 pm #

I appreciate you sharing your views. I want to speak to your point about personal responsibility. I believe that everyone should take responsibility for their actions, but everyone including republicans have admitted that there is inequality in the allocation of resources. I still believe people should suck it and move on, but resources do have to be considered.

The other point I want to comment on is government. The lack of government is what lead to the current crisis we are facing. No I don’t think the government should put their hand in every bodies business, but there has to be oversight. Someone has to be there to monitor companies. Especially big companies like AIG. They are so big now we are stuck bailing them out.

It is the lack of oversight that allow credit card companies to increase interest rates on the ordinary person. It is the lack of oversight that allows insurance companies to put clauses in their agreements and then deny dying people their right to medical care even after they have paid their premium.

I will say that I am glad you are a conservative before you are Republican, because the Republican party has lost sight of their own values and beliefs.
