This Whole Jesse Jackson, Obama Thing…

July 19, 2008

Last week, there were reports that Jesse Jackson said some degrading comments about Obama. I’m not even going to repeat it. However, I certainly won’t follow the choir about this. It’s not a question of whether it was right or wrong what Jesse said. The question is why did Fox News use something that was clearly “off the record” on record? As a journalism student, I learned that there are clear lines between “on the record” and “off the record”. The mic was on, but they weren’t on air yet. This should be treated as an ethical matter, not a personal one.

On the same note, not everybody likes Obama. People are entitled to their opinions. But I think discrediting what Jesse Jackson stands for and what he has accomplished is childish. His comment may have been childish. He may be a little extra sensitive about Obama’s absent fathers comment because he had a child out of wedlock when he was married. But is there anyone whose ever said something in privacy and the wrong ears picked up on it? It happens. Moving on….

This was just plain wrong all across the board for FOX and Jesse’s people. So embarrassing…

Got something to say?
