Hello, Cheating Is Not News Anymore

When all else fails, write a story about cheating.  Today the NY Times published an article “Love Sex and The Changing Landscape of Infidelity” that said the rate of women who cheat is increasing and is almost on par with men who cheat according to a recent survey conducted by researchers who need more money for more important research.  Here’s a part:

But a handful of new studies suggest surprising changes in the marital landscape. Infidelity appears to be on the rise, particularly among older men and young couples. Notably, women appear to be closing the adultery gap: younger women appear to be cheating on their spouses nearly as often as men.

I hope my tax paying dollars are not paying for all this frivilous cheating research.  The article should have been about how the rising rates of women cheating poses more threat to a family than any man who cheats.  When a woman cheats she runs the high risk of getting pregnant, of lying to her husband who the father is, of raising a child who may never know his father, and running the risk of the child knowing his father destroying the father he’s ever really known, her husband.  When a husband cheats and gets someone pregnant, stats show that it either causes a divorce or the pregnant woman is usually on her own until further notice.  Here’s something else:

But today, married women are more likely to spend late hours at the office and travel on business. And even for women who stay home, cellphones, e-mail and instant messaging appear to be allowing them to form more intimate relationships, marriage therapists say. Dr. Frank Pittman, an Atlanta psychiatrist who specializes in family crisis and couples therapy, says he has noticed more women talking about affairs centered on “electronic” contact.

“Electronic” contact is typing, typing is not cheating.  Text messaging is the anti-Christ to any intimate relationship.  Call it what it is.  It’s just sex, it’s nothing personal.  But then again, some women love reading between the lines.

So, to me, that poses a more interesting light on this timeless tale.  And for the record, women have always cheated it is more acceptable now to talk about it.  Shish…
