Do You!

By Guest Blogger, Goldie

We’re taught about being sensual with ourselves but are we being fair to ourselves?

When you wake up in the morning, do you open your closet and get excited, merely off the wardrobe you are about to create? Do you have a look in mind? Can you create it? It’s some important questions to ask.

I bring this up because the women who come in asking advice, tend to look at me while trying on something fabulous. They then look at me, and ask,”Is this too much?”

I want to shake them. Love Yourself! Engulf yourself in colors you love, not muted things that you’re only happy with because it’s not “too much” You can wear studs, you can wear chartreuse, and you can pull off that crazy cut-out dress! Do you, in good taste of course.

I say in good taste because there are women on the other side of this border, women who don’t know how old they are or what size they truly are. Pick a trend, make it work for your wardrobe. If you are afraid to do “too much”, start with Accessories, I did a post on it so check it out. You would be surprised what a pair of hot pink heels will do for a nude outfit. Studs are big this season, Try a studded bag with your simple outfit. Step it up, it’s the simplest things that make you happy. I guarantee when you step out of the norm, then bring it back, you will will be enthralled at how gorgeous you look.

I just hate to see such a beautiful canvas unused.

I totally co-sign on this. I think women look to other women for validation too much because in all honesty, most women dress for other women. Why should any grown azz woman care what another one has on. I get you on the taste level though, some sista’s don’t know when they’ve gone off the map with their style, lol! I’ve been guilty of this too- but I feel you should take risks and be confident with your ish anyway. I definitely like all of the edgy, bold looks this season though. I look forward to adding a few new pieces. 🙂

Good post Goldie. I agree whole heartedly. I gut UberExcited when I’ve picked out something that makes me feel like BoomBoomPow 🙂 I’m slowly increasing my price range in my wardrobe and have made several sacrifices for signature pieces and several trendier pieces. Either way the feeling is so worth it for a renewed sense of Self 🙂

    Love, EbonyLolita 😉
