OK. Here we go!

My Swirl Man likes it hard and loud.  Needless to say, it was my first time.

From what I understood of this “sport,” big trucks crush smaller vehicles and other items placed in their path. The revving of engines and the sound of metal being crushed is the order of the day.  It’s not exactly a day in the park.  It was another monster truck rally.  He has been going to these since he was a teenager.  He described it as just standing around looking at gleaming trucks and gigantic wheels.

And my man was ready.  He even pulled out the cowboy boots doing his best run of an urban cowboy or white thug depending on what side of town you are from!  What is with white boys and plaid shirts?  He has one of those on too.  My cerebral lawyer has such a laid back side. I love it!

I also love the fact that dating my Swirl Man takes me so far out of my comfort zone.  I’m no slouch, either – I rose to the occasion and donned some jeans and a plaid shirt of my own. I’ve never worn cowboy boots so my man was very happy to buy my first pair. If anyone had told me three months ago that I would be dressed this way and headed to a monster truck rally I would have laughed them to scorn and told them they were out of their mind.

We went to the rally and had a blast. The trucks were awesome to watch. The roar of the crowd was incredible, and seeing that much metal being crushed gave me a rush. I clapped to country music and chowed down on barbeque with the best of them. Yeehaw!

I’m learning that fierce and fabulous also comes in down home and country.  These new adventures are helping me to diversify my tastes in food, recreation, and music. Yes, I’m seeing different sides of my man, but in doing so I’m also seeing parts of me that I didn’t even realize were there.
