Alphanista Hall of Fame: Heidi Horten

June 11, 2009

famewomanSo, she’s not exactly ranked high in the good looks department (esp if you’ve seen other photos), but Ms. Horten is a true player.

When I read up on her, I liked her story. I liked how she planned her take over since 19.  We review all kinds of women for the Alphanista Hall Of Fame–self made–and those who are self made through right associations.

In Forbes’ latest list, The World’s Richest Women Horten scores big:

A modern-day fairy tale: Heidi Jelinek, so the story is told, met Helmut Horten, founder of the eponymous German department store chain, in a hotel bar in 1959 when she was about 19 years old. Despite a 30-year age difference, they wed seven years later. She inherited an estimated $1 billion fortune from him, when he died in 1987. Now Austria’s merry widow divides her time between a home in Lyford Cay, a penthouse in Vienna and houses in the Tessin and by the Wörthersee in Austria. Owns one of the world’s largest yachts, the 315-foot Carinthia VII.

Oh yeah, and she doesn’t have to wrestle with her kids for the wealth, because they didn’t have any.  Now she is a fortified business woman, with one of the world’s largest yachts and overseer of her husband’s fortune and stakes in department stores.  I’m sure he taught her well.  But all along, she was the true player.   A hotel bar is worth more than a round of bad martinis.

Yay or Nay for nomination?

Never heard of this lady, and I should! This is what I’m talking bout–positioning and leveraging. She had the youth, he had the money. Smart man.

She took advantage of a good opportunity and Death did the rest. Im sure he taught her well bc she probably just looked pretty and listened well. That fine art took her down the road to Weath & Security. I don’t know if she’s a Hall of Famer as much as a Smart Chick who know a Sugar Daddy when she saw one :)
    Love,

I think hotel bars are the #1 best place to meet men of substance. I know this from experience :)

@hiphopmuse, very true ;) have a friend who brings her little lap top to fit right in…her food is usually paid for, and a drink by end of day….most days she goes, and she always goes HUNGRY lol.

I say “nay”. I’m not feeling the 19 year old damsel luring in a 39 year old as a worthy woman of Alphanista substance. True, she has a yacht as long as a football field (literally), but there is a difference between an Alphanista and a Gold Digger. An Alphanista i would marry because you could give her a dollar and she’d turn it to a thousand dollars in a year. A Gold Digger wouldn’t. Which one is your nominee?

@Ken Horten has kept her husband’s empire afloat and formidable, since his death in 1987. And just because she inherited the money, doesn’t make her less worthy. There’s nothing wrong with attracting a rich man’s eye, too.

Been a while since I did this but she fit my standard.

Got something to say?
