Alpha Eats: French Toast Bake

So, while the rest of you are under miseltoes and caroling in your neighborhoods or building snowmen in your front yard, I was watching the Real Housewives of NJ marathon.

For Christmas morning, I cooked.  Below is a recipe for this French Toast I had at a brunch a few weeks ago.  It was delightful, and seemed so easy to make.  I gave it a try and did it myself with photos below.  Nothing broke, nothing spilled, nothing happened, but an easy dish for the whole family.  The end result is crispy, fluffy heaven.

The “recipe” isn’t very detailed but just go with it:

Christmas French Toast Bake

  • Baguette bread cut into cubes
  • Throw it in a baking dish – spray oil
  • 8 whole eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 teaspooon of vanilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Maple syrup
  • Add berries and almonds
  • Throw brown sugar over it

Directions
Cover and Refrig overnite
Cook for 40 minutes at 350

Step 1: The Baguettes

I got these from Panera Bread, it was in the shopping mall, just out the oven, a good baguette is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, squeeze it before you buy it, and if it doesn't give, don't buy it, it's old

 

Step 2: Prepare the dish

They said "cubes" but I just tore them up

 

Step 3:  The Eggs

They said 8, I did 9 because I had quite a bit of bread

 

Step 4: Almonds

Crunch, crunch. I bought the packaged sliced ones, don't try to get fancy with these and buy them whole

 

Step 4: The Bluberries

These are frozen, organic blueberries, I say a handful or so is about right, you don't want too many because they are frozen and will release too much liquid, if you want fresh, wait till next season

 

Step 5: The Cinnamon

Well, it's just cinnamon

 

Step 6: The Milk

I used Almond Milk, that is what I drink 90% of the time now, but you can use regular milk.

Pour in vanilla extract.  Mix all the ingredients together, and drizzle with Maple Syrup.  I used Log Cabin (No High Fructose Corn Syrup) Pancake Syrup, but you can experiment with different flavors like strawberry, blueberry, etc.

Make sure that everything is moistened with the ingredients

 

Refrigerate OVERNIGHT.

Before you put it in the oven the next morning, sprinkle brown sugar on top!
