What Did 2009 Do For You Lately? Alphanistas Know…

Recently, I sent out an email to my list and asked Alphanistas “What did you STOP in 2009?”

I was impressed by all the answers! With every end there is a new beginning. See below! Maybe you will be inspired.

1.  I stopped resisting. I learned more about the law of attraction and began to let myself allow all things good (whether real or imaginary) again.

2.  Just before Christmas, I finally won orders in court, ruling that I have sole custody, and sole decision making authority in my young son’s life. This means that after four and a half years of a spiteful, psychotic ex (who has had no contact with his son in that time) forcing me into court, everytime I wanted to do something for or with my son, I now have the freedom to just do it. That is a chapter definitely over for me.

3.  I stopped saying no to social invites, and started attending as many events as possible. I’ve gained lots of new contacts, acquaintances, and experiences.

4.  I stopped being single after 9 Tuesdays.  I finished in February 2009 and am still enjoying the wonderful man I meet a month after!

5.  I stopped holding on to things and people who aren’t adding anything to my life.

6.  I stopped lying to myself and started seeking truth.

7.  Stopped being a procrastinator and doing what I say I am going to do!

8.  Stopped being a negative/complaining person.

9.  Stopped fighting my intuition and listen to it every time, even the little things it tells me.

10.  I stopped downplaying myself and my needs to appease others in friendships, relationships, and professionally. It’s made me stronger, more confident and I’ve gained more respect.

Make 2010 A Year Of Decisions

There are years that you just do stuff–move, change jobs, travel, meet new people, and just go about daily living–and there are years when nothing happens.

But then there are years when things take off.  When you make decisions that totally alter your life, and those around you.  Decisions that catapult you to the next level where the good or bad will meet you.  You may think you make decisions all the time, but they are just thoughts.  Decisions set things in motion and require action.  You can think your way through life and end up in a cycle.  Thoughts are good, but they are also repititive if they don’t lead to a decision.  So, what do you have to decide in 2010?

1) Is it time to get married?

2)  Are you finally ready to lose those 20 pounds by any means necessary?

3) Will you start that part time business?

Your conscience?  Yes, because in each one of us there is a voice that is bitching to be heard.  Stop suppressing, and start deciding!

Beauty and School Are Not Enough To Keep A Man

I left this comment at NecoleBitchie, and figured why not share here?

It was a post about another media story (ABC NEWS) concerning single Black women.  Am I the only one tired of this song?  At the end, it always ends up as the black man’s fault.  This “issue” can be a particular challenge for an Alpha Female who is used to controlling so much of her environment.  Here’s what I said:

Why do some women think because you are attractive, gainfully employed, financially stable and educated that alone qualifies you for a man?  It takes a lot to be with a man, there are personality issues between men and women that you don’t learn in school.  Point is some women just can’t get along with men, talk to them or treat them.  To get a man, you need to learn how to attract the right one.

And any woman with a man in their life, will tell you, it develops parts of you as a woman you never imagined.   School, sororities, the corner office, the cocktails with the girls can’t teach you.  Frankly, if women knew how to attract the right man there wouldn’t be so much moaning and groaning.  Do you know when to compromise?  Do you know when to let him have his way, knowing that at the end of the day, happiness is the key?  Do you know how to do house chores?  Cook?  Make a good sandwich?  Do you know how to talk to him in that “certain” way?  Do you know that some questions don’t need to be asked?  Do you know that you can’t always jump to defend yourself?  Do you know that it’s okay to not be in control at all times?  But, vulnerable, dependent, fully exposed where any day the rug can be swept from under you?  Are you ready to be the student at times, and not the teacher?  All the while having this beautiful man wrapped around your finger like twine.  That’s what happens when a man loves you, you define him as he defines you.   These are some of the things that “make” a woman and some do it better than others.

If you know this already, then you can attract the right man who will give you this and more.   Self fulfilling prophecies are real, be careful what you agree with.  Keep shaking your head in agreement with these stories, and see what happens.

Look within.

If it’s staying in, watch service at the church, sitting in front of the tv, or dinner with friends make sure it is something you are doing out of want, not need.

Thousands of dollars are made by establishments on this night by selling expensive tickets and the like.  It’s a celebration, no doubt.  There is a quiet group of people who ring it in sleeping, solo, or in the crib.
