I Get Many Comments, But This One Hit the Spot…

July 31, 2008

I was reading a blog today about Marry Your Baby Daddy and someone left this comment about it:

Tiffany In Houston said…
As a single woman myself I think what Maryann is doing is awesome. I also hope that while she seeks to help make stable black families that someone also sees the love and light within her and she can create a family of her own. God Bless her
You can read the blog here. Thank you, Tiffany.

50 Cent Has the Best Legal Team Ever!

July 31, 2008

He bought the rights to his crazy baby mama’s story! How genius is that? This girl cannot write a book about her or him and if she has anyone come to her to write or televise a story, they have to go to HIM. He will say NO.

This is one man you don’t want to mess with, ladies….unless you marry him. When they love you, men like this give you everything. If they hate you, they’ll destroy you. Usually they are very extreme, they will cut you to death and love you to death, sometimes, literally. Ouch.

The Year of The Black Man…So Why Did CNN Miss It?

July 30, 2008

A blind, Black NYS governor, a Black nominee for President of the U.S. and now meet, Mark Whitaker, the replacement for Tim Russert’s role as Washington Bureau Chief and head of NBC’s Meet the Press. He will NOT be the host, but will be instrumental in choosing one. Mark is also Senior VP of NBC News, but who would’ve known? He was also one of the only black editors of a major national news magazine, Newsweek. But I bring this all up to say, again, that there is a burgeoning black middle class or some kind of renaissance thing happening and has BEEN happening (see all the books written about this). Black people, as a collective are earning more than they ever had in their lives in this country. They are also buying more homes, graduating college and black men are doing their thing out in on the world’s stage. From President to Meet the Press these are all hi-profile international gigs.

Not that anybody asked, but if there is another CNN ’special’ on Black in America, these are my topics to focus on: middle-class YOUNG Blacks, the age of the weave and how it has redefined and underwhelmed Black beauty, black single women and marriage (that is a must), black marriages and its unique intricacies (there are more stay at home black moms with white nannies (see NYT)), Black economics, the ethnic divide among blacks (American Blacks vs Caribbean Blacks, the second largest groups of Blacks in the U.S), black men and sex (especially since black folks have always been conservative in this area, they are NOT anymore, sort of reflecting the rap music, etc), the fall of rap (a rap CD can barely break Gold these days), the rise of the “glamorous life” (every 13 year old girl wants a boy who has a car, a diamond in his ear, and rims) perpetuated by videos and music that is causing an increase in STDS and pregnancies among Black teens, and the black church (has changed some of its conservative leanings to accommodate new groups of people), gentrification, etc.

What did I miss?

I Have A Problem With Unmarried Black Men…

July 30, 2008

Last night, I ran into a friend of mine who thought I had a problem with him. He had heard around town that I said bad things. Well, we cleared the air. He told me he thought I was mad at him because he is an “unmarried black man”. I cracked up. I certainly do not want to be mad about that! Or carry that burden because there are LOTS of unmarried black men, but with my whole marry your baby daddy platform, I understand the confusion. Then I thought about it. I guess it would be nice to see more married black men and women. But I certainly wouldn’t harbor negative feelings about one who is unmarried. So, what am I saying about myself? I’m unmarried right now. I feel indifferent about it. It’s something I get asked all the time because of the event. If I was married, I’d still get asked it! “So, Maryann you’re married with two kids and a house in the Hamptons, why do you care about baby mamas and daddies?” LOL.

Anyway, I don’t have problems with unmarrieds….I have a problem with married singles….[stopping here]

1 out of 2 Black People Have AIDS?

July 30, 2008

So, you may have read the recent report out about this here.

But com

e on, that means every other black person I meet has AIDS. That means half or 50% of black people hav

e AIDS. I know lots of black people and they have not told me they had AIDS. I tested. I do not have AIDS. So, have my friends and others. Anybody who is NOT A VIRGIN, should be tested for AIDS until they become virginized again (stop having sex, hello!). I beg to differ with this report. Black men have lots of sex with non-black women. So, why aren’t the numbers of AIDS cases raising in groups of non-black women? Where are the numbers coming from? Who’s counting?

Let’s say this is all true and accurate. Black women need to start demanding condoms. How do we know they are not doing this? Because the out of wedlock rate (babies outside of marriage or unplanned pregnancies before marriage)birth rate is 70% indicating unprotected sex compared to 26% in white couples. That will help. Damn. Are some women that desperate to be with a man that they’d risk their life? This can be controlled if women would start gatekeeping their gatekeeper.
